Product recall
This refers to the news report, ‘Honda recalls 668,000 more cars in Japan’, (Oct 24).Honda Motor Co has said that it has recalled cars to replace defective air bag inflators. The inflators have been found at a risk of exploding with excessive force. At least 14 deaths and 150 injuries have occurred worldwide due to such bags.
An auto recall occurs when a manufacturer determines that a car model has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal safety standard. When this happens, the automaker will alert owners to the problem and usually offer a free repair. A recall doesn’t mean that the entire vehicle will be replaced. In Pakistan, most of the businessmen have no idea of providing any after-sales service. They don’t know that their business would flourish if they offer such a service. Some of them are so averse to this practice that they have even displayed notices in their shops that any item once purchased won’t be replaced.
