Man with Rs5m abducted in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: Unidentified people abducted a man with Rs 5 million here on Thursday. Malik Muhammad Safdar, a resident of Batala Colony, carrying Rs 5 million was on his way when unidentified people abducted him. Police have registered a case against the unidentified abductors under Section 365 of the PPC.

 

‘Space sciences playing active role in fighting challenges’

FAISALABAD: A two-day World Space Week began at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, featuring different programmes, including water rocket competition and awareness walk.

The event was organised by the UAF and the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco). Inaugurating the event, UAF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the space sciences had been playing an active role in fighting different challenges, including floods, new diseases and droughts. He said that the earth satellites were being widely used to identifying and forecasting the natural disasters. He said that UN General Assembly had declared the first space week in 1999 and it was observed with a different theme every year. He said that the space week offered an exciting opportunity for the students to explore new avenues for their future.

Suparco Agri Information Centre Director Dr Ijaz Ahmad said that the space technology had brought more benefits to the mankind than any other technological advancement in the world. He said that entire communication of the world depended on the satellite system.

Director Research Dr Aslam Mirza said that the space sciences were playing a pivotal role in our lives. The world had become a global village due to this advancement, he added. Principal Office Laboratory School System Prof Dr Khalilur Rehman and subject specialist Maqbool Rehmani also spoke on the occasion. Students from 40 schools across the district are participating in the space week.
