WSW to generate space awareness among general public, students

Institute of Space Technology (IST) launched a four-day activity based programme to celebrate World Space Week at its campus at Islamabad on Wednesday, with a view to generate space awareness among the general public and students from a large number of schools and colleges of the twin cities and surrounding areas.

About 125 different schools and colleges from the vicinity of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are participating in 165 different space themed events and activities of World Space Week 2016 at IST. There are 3,000 registered participants of WSW 2016 and over 2000 visitors/guests are expected to witness WSW at IST. The World Space Week 2016 will continue till October 22, 2016 culminating many inspiring space oriented events.

Head of Electrical Engineering Department and Project Director IST CUBESAT Satellite programme Dr. Qamar-ul-Islam was the chief guest on the occasion.

Dr. Najam Abbas, Deputy Director Institute of Space Technology and event head welcomed the participants and briefed audience about the significance and scope of WSW-2016.

The theme for WSW 2016 is ‘Remote sensing-Enabling Our Future. Remote Sensing: Enabling our Future’ celebrates Earth Observation from Space for the betterment of the human race.
