Three labourers have lost their life while one has sustained serious injury in a coal mine accident in Jabba Tar in Nowshera. The accident was caused due to an overloaded mine-cart. Had there been any strict supervision, this would have been avoided. The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan should carry out safety reforms to minimise such incidents in future. Previously, a similar incident happened in which four workers, including a foreigner, lost their lives while being trapped in a lift.
The federal and provincial governments are requested to ensure that mine workers are aware of safety regulations and well equipped to handle such disasters in the quickest manner. Furthermore, the mining process must be carried out under the supervision of a qualified engineer. A foolproof inspection of mine carts and lifts must be carried out prior to the commencement of mining activities.
