KASUR: Five alleged robbers were shot dead in an encounter with police here on Monday.
According to police, 10 suspected robbers attacked a Ganda Singh police van near Pakki Havali on Ferozpur Road to free four notorious accused from police custody. The four robbers were being shifted from Kot Lakhpat/Camp Jail Lahore to Ganda Singh station for investigation.
The attackers got released the four accused and snatched one official rifle from the police and fled. The robbers opened indiscriminate fire near village Charewan when police chased them. The four released robbers and one of the attackers, Arshed alias Sethi, were killed in the encounter as the police retaliated their fire. The four robbers were identified as Abdul Jabar alias Bao, Muhammad Imran, Muhammad Ashraf alias Qilli and Basharat alias Basharati.
According to DPO Ali Nasir Rizvi, the accused were wanted by Lahore and Kasur police in more than 80 cases of robberies, house dacoities and murders during dacoity. The DPO said that all the criminals were killed by the firing of their own accomplices.
