Pakistan is endeavouring to enter into the realm of Space Science and Technology and related applications. The success of any space program relies greatly on public understanding and support. To pursue the legacy of Space knowledge and awareness contribution, Institute of Space Technology (IST), here has planned for organizing various events and activities at its campus in Islamabad during October 19 to 22, 2016 to celebrate World Space Week 2016.

In 1999, the United Nations General Assembly declared 4 to 10 October as World Space Week (WSW). Each year, the World Space Week Association (WSWA) selects a theme for the World Space Week to provide a focus of the activities and events throughout the world. The theme for WSW 2016 is “Remote Sensing; Enabling Our Future”, which celebrates Earth Observation from Space for the betterment of the human race. It highlights a host of classic Earth Observation missions such as the US Landsat mission, the work of intergovernmental groups such as GEOSS Group on Earth Observations and emphasizes applications such as environment and agriculture monitoring, land use mapping and new uses such as location based services.

An interactive session regarding World Space Week - 2016 was organized at Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad here on Thursday. A total of 30 faculty representatives from 20 different educational institutions of twin cities participated in the forum. The basic aim of the forum was to introduce the concept of ‘Space Ambassadors’ at various educational institutions, who were guided about different events and activities of World Space Week-2016 at IST. WSW 2016 at IST will encompass 161 activities and 92 space themed competitions. Institute of Space Technology would welcome the enthusiastic participation of the students of schools/colleges and their families in WSW during October 19 to 22, 2016.
