US asks Pakistan to act against terror outfits

WASHINGTON: The US National Security Adviser spoke with her Indian counterpart on Thursday and maintained that the administration expected Pakistan to combat and delegitimatise UN designated terrorist entities.

“Ambassador Rice reiterated our expectation that Pakistan takes effective action to combat and delegitimise United Nations-designated terrorist individuals and entities, including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Muhammad, and their affiliates, “US National Security Council spokesperson Ned Price told media.

Rice spoke to Indian official Ajit Doval to condemn the September 18 Uri attack and offer condolences to the victims and their families.

She affirmed President Obama's commitment to redouble US efforts to bring to justice the perpetrators of terrorism throughout the world, the spokesperson said adding, “Ambassador Rice discussed our shared commitment with India to pursue regional peace and stability and pledged to deepen collaboration on counter-terrorism matters including on UN terrorist designations.”
