PESHAWAR: Anti-polio vaccine has been supplied to Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) where the campaign against the crippling disease is in full swing. The September round of anti-polio campaign, still in third day of its implementation, is one of the National Immunisation Days (NID) launched throughout the country, said a communiqe.
Demand for the anti-polio vaccine during NIDs, in comparison to Sub-National Immunisation Days (SNID) wherein campaign is launched in specific parts of the country, is much bigger. Deputy Coordinator for the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Dr Ikhtiar Ali said, “Initially anti-polio vaccine was provided across Fata by September 23.” He added, “Later on, keeping in view vaccine demand from the agencies, some of the vaccine vials were transported to South, North Waziristan and Orakzai agencies on September 26, whereas, vaccine vials to the remaining areas have been sent today. Vaccine is being provided across Fata where needed.”
