Banned outfit member found dead
A man said to be a member of a banned militant outfit was found dead in an empty plot in the Orangi Town area on Wednesday.
The suspect Amanullah Mehsud’s body was found with a sub-machine gun lying nearby in a plot near Bajaur Chowk, Raja Tanveer Colony, within the Iqbal Market police limits. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, and a loaded SMG magazine and a spent bullet shell found on the spot were sent for forensics.
District West SSP Pir Muhammad Shah said the suspect was positively identified as an activist of a proscribed organisation. The motive of the murder, he added, was yet to be ascertained.
The SSP said efforts were being made to find out how the suspect came into possession of the SMG, adding that police were looking into whether the weapon had been snatched and whether an FIR had been registered in this regard.
Rangers arrest nine
The Sindh Rangers arrested nine suspects and recovered weapons in operations conducted across the city on Wednesday.
A spokesman said targeted raids were carried out in Gadap, Bin Qasim, SITE Town and Clifton areas, in which eight criminals were arrested, including two members of banned outfits and three robbers. Illegal weapons and ammunition were also found in their possession.
During snap checks in Korangi and Malir, three suspects were arrested with weapons. In an operation in interior Sindh, a weapon dealer was apprehended.
The spokesman said checking was being done in the Heerabad area of Hyderabad, during which a person signalled to stop for a check tried to flee. However, he was chased down and apprehended.
The accused was identified as Zahid alias Chotu, who belonged to a criminal gang and was involved in purchase and selling of weapons to criminal and terrorist groups. He was later handed over to local police for further legal action.
Suicides
Zainab, 22, committed suicide by hanging herself after she had a quarrel with her husband, Sohail at her house in Mansoor Nagari with Pakistan Bazaar police jurisdiction.
Her body was discovered by her husband who chose to break the door when his calls went unanswered. Upon informing the police authorities the body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities but the police is yet to ascertain the cause of death and were looking in to whether it was a murder.
In Korangi, 30-year-old Abdul Wahid was found dead in his room by family members. Police said it was suicide fuelled by family quarrels and that the victim had consumed posion to end his life.
