Two men were arrested on Friday in connection with the murder of a head constable in Korangi.

SSP Korangi Noman Siddique said a few days ago head constable Mohammad Yousuf of the Korangi police station was returning from GPO Chowk Link Road on his motorcycle when two men riding a motorcycle opened fire on him near Ittehad Flour Mill. An FIR was lodged at the Korangi police station on complaint of the constable’s brother.

The official said the Korangi police on a tip-off conducted a raid at a hideout in Burmi Colony and arrested two suspects, Imtiaz and Abdul Maalik. They were found in possession of two 30-bore pistols. The SSP said the two men were habitual criminals and involved in a number of drug peddling cases. They had also confessed to murdering the head constable. The murder weapon had also been found in the possession of the two men.

Rangers operations

A Rangers spokesman said eight alleged criminals were arrested in different raids.

He said the paramilitary force also conducted an intelligence-driven raid in the Musharraf Colony where a huge cache of weapons was found.

He claimed that the weapons were buried underground by activists of the MQM and the seized weapons could be uses for creating unrest in the city. The seized weapons include three rifles, four 7mm rifles, four submachine guns, a 30 bore pistol, two hundred bullets of SMG and 300 rounds of 303 rifle. Seven suspects were arrested during raids in Landhi and Gaddap who belong to banned outfits.
