LAHORE: Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain (retd) Friday said completion of power projects in the shortest possible time was must to rid the country of electricity shortages and to stabilise the economy.
The chairman expressed these views during his visit to the strategically important 969MW Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
He viewed construction activities on site in Nauseri, 41 kilometres east of Muzaffarabad. He witnessed the work being done on the main dam, composite dam, de-sander, sedimentation basin, and debris channel.
Later, Wapda chairman reached the power house site at Chattar Kalas, located some 22 kilometres south of Muzaffarabad. There, he visited underground power house, surge shaft and transformers hall, and reviewed electro-mechanical works. He appreciated the pace and quality of the construction works.
Works are ongoing simultaneously on three sites for the Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project. It has four generating units with of 242.25MW capacity each, totalling to 969MW.
