Sindh developing geographical information system: minister

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information Science and Technology Dr Sikandar Ali Shoro on Thursday said that the provincial government is developing geographical information system.

The system will contain information related to city maps, roads, plots, population density and others indicators, the provincial minister said during his visit to Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).

He informed about the activities and current projects of his ministry. He said that currently the ministry was working on e-governance with health, education, law enforcement agencies, police, judiciary, NADRA, district government and other departments of government.

He added that Arfa Karim Information Technology city has been started in Malir City Karachi for the promotion and development of IT where the first IT University and Incubation center will also be created in the near future.

He also offered the services of his department to FPCCI for creating databank and improving IT related services.  Arshad Farooq, Acting President, FPCCI on the occasion said that the efficient utilization of information technology would create paper less environments and develop strong linkages among the organizations for information sharing.

During the meeting, S. M. Muneer, Chief Executive TDAP assured his support for the growth and export of IT industry. Maher Alam Khan, Acting Secretary General suggested creation of Trade Portal with the collaboration of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics and other government departments,  while the other members urged for creation of research and development department for developing softwares and operating websites from Pakistan.
