Babar records first win in 6-Red World Snooker
KARACHI: Pakistan’s Babar Masih recorded his first victory in the Sagnsom 6-Red World Snooker Championship in Bangkok on the second day of league matches.
According to the information made available by the Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA) here on Tuesday, Babar, who crashed to defeats in his first couple of matches, earned his maiden points by edging out Wayne Brown of England after a nine-frame thriller.
Fighting for survival in the high-profile event, Babar overcame the Englishman 5-4 with the frame scores of 29-19, 14-39, 0-50, 58-5, 16-57, 66-1, 38-51, 62-0, 28-23.
He fired a break of 51 in the fourth frame, having conceded one of 50 in the previous frame.
His joy of triumph was short-lived because he succumbed to another loss, third in four outings, later in the day when Darren Morgan of Wales defeated him 5-4
with the frame scores of 6-34, 28-20, 48-17, 57-9, 36-31, 13-43, 0-55, 33-45, 33-31.
With just one victory from four matches, Babar was languishing at the bottom among the six contestants in the Group E.
His last league fixture will be against Ryan Day of Wales.
He lost to Ratchapol Pu-Ob-Orm of Thailand and Stuart Bingham of England on the first day.
With the top four cueists from each group set to move into the knock-out stage, he needs to win his last league encounter by a wide margin in order to have any chance of preventing his early exit from the competition.
