COTHM awards degrees to 90 graduates

As many as 90 students from the College Of Tourism and Hotel Management (COTHM) were, on Sunday, awarded degrees in four disciplines, while 34 position holders were honoured with medals and certificates on the institute’s second convocation.

Students, dressed in blue gowns and graduation caps, belonged to the disciplines of school of hospitality management, culinary arts, baking and patisserie and airline, travel and tourism.

Skill Development Council’s chairman, Ahsanullah Khan, presided over the event, whereas Pakistan Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) vice chairperson Prof Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi, renowned neurologist Prof Dr Muhammad Wasay, COTHM director operations Zaheer Ahmed, International Development director Babar Sheikh and COTHM Islamabad director Asif Javed were the guests of honour. 

Lauding COTHM’s efforts, Khan emphasised the importance of a country having skilled graduates in the field of hospitality.

“Today the field is developing at a very fast pace in not just Pakistan but around the globe.”

He observed that the need of skilled labour for blue-collar jobs was increasing day by day. Referring to China Pakistan Economic Corridor, as well as other global events such as EXPO 2020 and FIFA world Cup 2022, both in the Middle East, Khan said that the graduates had innumerable employment opportunities.

He further stated that the COTHM was playing a vital role in coping up with the challenge and doing its best to get these opportunities for its graduates.

Addressing the convocation, COTHM Karachi’s executive director, Sabir Ahmed, observed that the convocation was a cause to celebrate because it would better the standard of hospitality in our country.

He added that it was a huge motivational factor for the country’s youth to consider joining such fields.

“COTHM will continue its efforts for the development of hospitality sector, without compromising on quality education,” he said.

Ahmed added that the institute would provide full support to the industry by honing skills of more and more young people.  

Later, the graduating students were awarded their respective medals, awards and certificates.
