Lecture on food security
LAHORE
The Centre for Applied Policy Research in Livestock (CAPRIL) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) organised a lecture on “Food Security and Climate Change: A Complex Relationship” on Wednesday.
Research Professor from University of California and Chair United Nations Environment Programme Dr Hilal Elver delivered a lecture on food security and climate change while Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Naseer Pasha, Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairperson Prof Dr Muhammad Nizam-ud-Din, Dean Faculty of Life Science Business Management Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad and a large number of faculty members and students attended.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Muhammad Nizam-ud-Din said that over the years we faced various issues related to food security due to the climate change in our country. He said the PHEC had taken an initiative of organising lectures in Punjab to create awareness among public to address these issues. He said the UVAS had been selected as the proper platform for the purpose.
Prof Pasha said that climate change puts millions of people's lives at risk, and traps poor households in food insecurity and poverty. Climate shocks disproportionately affect the most vulnerable people at risk of hunger, especially women and children, he added. He thanked to PHEC for conducting this lecture in UVAS on important topic.
The objective of the lecture was to understand the causes of climate change which ultimately affects the food security. Later, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad presented the vote of thanks.
Seminar: Punjab University Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) in collaboration with Punjab Higher Education Commission and American Institute of Pakistan Studies will organise a seminar on “Force and Intervention and Humane Global Governance” by Dr Richard Falk on Thursday (today) at 11am in its seminar hall, according to a press release issued here on Wednesday.
