Residents warn of protest against girls’ college shifting

MARDAN: The residents, including elected representatives of Bakhshali, on Monday threatened to stage protest if the Government Girls Degree College was shifted to Gujrat village.

Addressing a meeting at village council Bakhshali-I, local councillors including Qazi Bashir, Zulfiqar Ali, Kareem Khan, Fazl-e-Ilahi, Rashid Khan and others announced to take out a protest rally on Friday against the government’s decision of shifting the college to Gujrat.

They said that Bakhshali was the biggest town in PK-30 wherefrom Education Minister Mohammad Atif Khan was also elected. They added that more than 60 villages were located in its surrounding areas.

The other speakers said that government had selected a place in March last year to establish Girls Degree College on Mardan-Bakhshali Road.

They maintained the feasibility report was also prepared for the college as well as laboratory had also passed the sample of the land selected for the college. “Now despite this the government has decided to shift the college to the Gujrat village,” Zulfiqar Ali lamented.
