Five Pakistan players reach Penang Junior Open pre-quarters

KARACHI: Five junior players of Pakistan have qualified for the pre-quarter-finals of Penang Junior Open at Bukit Dumbar, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia.

Nadeem Usman moved into the pre-quarter-finals of under-11 category. He got walkover in the first round and defeated Islee Madzzuki Muhamad Danysh of Malaysia 11-1, 11-4, 11-4 to set a clash with Arulkanden Lohan of Malaysia.

In the under-13 category, eighth seed Irfan Ahsan got bye in the first round and defeated Ho Ho Sum of Hong Kong 11-6, 11-0, 11-2 in the second round. He will face Chee Jen Yang of Malaysia.

Asadullah defeated Cheung Ka Yau of Hong Kong 11-5, 11-2, 11-7 in the first round and stunned fifth seed Yu Zi Tau of Hong Kong 11-3, 9-11, 11-6, 11-6 in the second. He faces Tse Jat of Hong Kong.

In the under-15 category, Raza Mohammad Hassan got bye in the first round and defeated Paul Nervyn Jacob of Malaysia 11-6, 13-11, 11-3 in the second. He stunned 10th seed Todd Jun Hay of Malaysia 8-11, 11-2, 19-21, 11-6, 13-11 in the third round. He will face seventh seed Elbarbary Karim of Egypt in the pre-quarters.

Naveed Rehman lost in the first round of under-17 category when third seed Wang Pang Soon of Malaysia thrashed him 11-7, 11-3, 11-8.

In the under-19 category, 11th seed Ramzan Arsalan defeated Wong Wing Kit of Malaysia 11-1, 11-1, 11-4 in the first round. He will face sixth seed Coxsedge Lachlan Joseph of Australia in the pre-quarters.
