200 SSU commandos deployed at city’s vulnerable points

The Sindh government has directed the Special Security Unit (SSU) to deploy teams of its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) commandos at multiple sensitive and vulnerable areas of the city. 

A SSU spokesman on Friday said that, under the directives of Sindh Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and instructions of the Sindh IGP, as many as 200 SSU commandos had been deployed in various sensitive areas and vulnerable points in different districts of Karachi to protect the lives and properties of Karachiites.

“Keeping in view the current situation, the SSU commandos will perform their duties in two shifts till August 14 at different sensitive areas, shopping centres, public places and bazaars. The commandos will assist the local police in maintaining peace and tranquillity in different areas as well as to initiate timely action against any potential threat.”

The SWAT commandos equipped with latest weapons and communication system will also remain alert round the clock to deal with any emergency situation if created by terrorists and criminals, the spokesman said. 

 

Rangers seek public help 

The Sindh Rangers have asked the people of Karachi to continue their support in order to help maintain peace in the city.  In a statement, a Rangers spokesman said that owing to collective efforts of the paramilitary force and the people of Karachi, peace had been established in the metropolitan.

Lauding the cooperation of Karachiites for the restoration of law and order, the Rangers appealed to the public that that they should keep an eye on suspicious elements and activities.

“The people of Karachi should make it sure that they are not providing direct or indirect assistance, whether intentionally or unintentionally, to the terrorists. Such assistance could either be in the form of giving shelter to terrorists in rented accommodations or any other form of assistance to them.” 

 

Rangers raids

The Rangers conducted targeted raids in Bin Qasim and Korangi areas, according to a statement, in which 10 alleged criminals said to be affiliated with banned outfits were arrested.  Illegal weapons and ammunitions were also found on them, the statement added.
