Karachi
The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), Sindh, conducted two raids in the city on Wednesday including one at the office of the payroll director at Civic Centre and a second successive one at the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) offices.
In the operation at the office of Asghar Durrani, the payroll director of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), electronic records were the main focus. Officials said an ACE team accompanied by a magistrate arrived at the office at around 10am and left with the required data at around 6 in the evening.
The ACE officials also called in Javed Rahim, the senior director for human resources who arrived late to work citing a leg injury, and checked records related to his department.
BIEK raid
In the second raid at the BIEK office in as many days, ACE teams confiscated multiple files and documents from the board’s IT section, apart from taking an employee into custody.
As per reports, the ACE team sealed off the IT section completely for the duration of the operation. The arrested employee was identified as a daily-wager named Adil, and ACE officials claimed they intended to detain a total of 12 employees but the rest of the workers were not in office at the time.
The BIEK chairman and other senior management officials were yet again unavailable for comments.
