QUETTA: An official of police died and five people including two children were injured in an explosion at Gawalmandi Chowk area of provincial capital on Tuesday evening.
Police sources said that unidentified men had packed improvised explosive device weighing five kilograms with time device in a sleeping bag and had kept it beside the road at Gawalmandi Chowk which went off when hundreds of people were passing through the area. One police official died and two children among five people injured in the blast.
The body and the injured were shifted to civil hospital where the deceased was identified as Muhammad Zaman. The injured were identified as Wali-Ullah, Rahim, Naqeebullah, Nadeem and Atif Shehzad.
Law enforcement agencies reached the site and cordoned off the entire area. Further investigation was underway. Provincial Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti visited the blast area and strongly condemned the incident and ordered to Law enforcement agencies to arrest suspects as soon as possible.
