UAF to launch 2 new postgraduate programmes

FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, in collaboration with the University of California, Davis, USA, will start two new postgraduate degree programmes, MSc (Hons) Climate Changes and MSc (Hons) Seed Science and Technology.
The programmes are initiated by the US Pakistan Center for Advances Studies Agriculture and Food Security, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. The USPCAS Bio-Technology Chair and the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics are launching the Seed Science and Technology Programme. Likewise, the Climate Changes programme is being kicked off by the Department of Agronomy and the USPCAS Climate Changes Chair. The initiatives are taken to meet the emerging challenges facing the agriculture sector that would help ensure the food security in the country. The admissions are opened and last date to apply is September 2, 2016. Meanwhile, Top performing students would have the opportunity to visit the US university, said USA subject specialist Dr Thomas Rost. He said that graduate of this MSc Climate Changes would become the first generation of the climate changes professional in Pakistan. UC Davis specialist Dr Jim Hill hoped that nothing could be more important for Pakistan’s agriculture than the high quality seed and the programme would prepare the manpower to address the issue.
