Two suspected robbers killed in shootouts with police

Police claimed shooting dead two robbers in as many shootouts on Friday.  One of the alleged robbers was killed near the Mai Ghari area in Manghopir.

Police said that the exchange of fire began when two men riding a motorcycle opened fire on them when they signalled them to pull over during patrolling in the afternoon. 

The cops returned fire and arrested one suspect in an injured condition, while his associate fled under the cover of fire. 

The injured was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was identified as Shahzad.

The police seized a pistol and a motorcycle, which had been stolen in Baldia Town. 

They suspected that the man belonged to a motorcycle-lifting gang and were trying to transport the motorcycle to Balochistan. 

Near Hyderi Marekt, police saw robbers looting a passer-by and warned them to surrender, but the suspects opened fire.

The police retaliated against the attack, shooting dead one robber and arresting the other. 

Pistols, side-view mirrors of various vehicles, snatched cellphones were said to have been found on the two men.

 

Hit-and-runs

Three people were killed in mishaps on Friday.

Muhammad Raheem, 27, died when a hit- and-run vehicle knocked him off his motorcycle near Future Colony in Landhi.

A 65-year-old bagger was knocked dead a hit-and-run vehicle near Shoe Market in the Garden police jurisdiction.

Police said the man was crossing a road when he met with fatal accident.

Asif Saleem, 33, was killed when he came under the wheels of a passenger train near Chanesar Goth in Cantt Railway Station. 

According to a police official, the unfortunate man had been crossing the tracks when he was hit by the train.
