PPP nominates mayoral candidates for Karachi, Hyderabad

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Friday announced its mayoral candidates for Karachi and Hyderabad; candidates for posts of chairmen and vice chairmen for various provincial municipal and district committees were also nominated.

The names were announced at a press conference presided over by Sindh Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Nisar Khuhro.

Karamullah Waqasi would contest the election in Karachi, while Pasha Qazi would run for the mayor of Hyderabad’s municipal corporation, Khuhro stated.

Mumtaz Memon was nominated as PPP’s candidate for chairman municipal committee, Thatta, while Ghulam Mujtaba Khushuk would run for the deputy chairman’s post.

In Hyderabad rural, Badar Memon would run for the post of chairman district council, and Bilal Leghari for vice chairman.

While for the district council of Umerkot, Dr Noor Hassan Shah would be running for the post of chairman and Malik Muhammad Chandio would be contesting the vice chairman’s elections; the PPP’s municipal committee candidates for the district were Haji Khaliq Siraj Soomro for chairman and Saroop Chand Kolhi for vice chairman.

Babar Ahmed Sanjrani will run for the chairman Shikarpur municipal committee while Khalid Hussain Shaikh will run for the post of vice chairman.

For Qamber Shahdadkot’s municipal committee Shahban Shaikh would be contesting elections for the post of chairman, while Zulfiqar Khanzada will be running for the post of vice chairman.

The party nominated Zulfiqar Qaimkhani for the post of chairman for Karachi’s district municipal corporation, East.

Khuhro claimed that all the party’s candidates were nominated purely on merit, and no candidate was discriminated against on the basis of their class.

He said the PPP emerged victorious in local government elections in 24 districts of the province.
