Qandeel murder case
MULTAN: Mufti Abdul Qavi, whose name hit the headlines after the ‘selfies scandal’ with slain model Qandeel Baloch, condemned the reports about his involvement in Qandeel’s murder.
“These are just rumours,” Mufti Qavi said while talking to a representative of a local TV channel on Sunday.Following the mysterious murder case of Qandeel Baloch, the police investigated that her cousins Haq Nawaz, Waseem and Arif allegedly abetted her murder for honour and the conspiracy plan was hatched abroad.
According to police sources, the culprits were transported to Multan in a cab. The police traced out the driver who was later identified as Abdul Basit, a resident of Shah Sadruddin village.
Further interrogation revealed that the driver is a cousin of Mufti Qavi. However, the suspended member of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Abdul Qavi denies his acquaintance with Basit.
“The last contact between me and Qandeel Baloch was 23 days ago. I am not familiar with Abdul Basit or any of the suspects for that matter. Anything I know about them is gathered from newspapers and TV channels,” said Mufti Qavi.
He said he was giving written answers to the questions police had posed to him, which would be submitted on Monday (today).Mufti Qavi said no family member of Qandeel had contacted him after she had been murdered and did not know how many family members she had.
The main accused, Wasim Baloch, was sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand whereas Haq Nawaz has been handed over to police on a five-day physical remand. Arif, who resides in Saudi Arabia, would be brought back to Pakistan through Interpol. Wasim had stated in a polygraph test in Lahore earlier this month that he grabbed her arms while Haq Nawaz strangled her.
