Two more children abducted

LAHORE

A young girl identified as Tooba, daughter of Abdul Habib, went missing in the Garhi Shahu Police jurisdiction in a suspected kidnapping. Police have registered an FIR and are looking into all possible explanations. 

Meanwhile, a severe traffic jam caused great discomfort to the commuters after protesters caused disruption on GT Road on Thursday following kidnapping of a boy.

The protesters staged a protest demonstration after 13-year-old Abdul Rehman was kidnapped in the Shahdara police area.

The kidnapping incidents in the city have risen over the past few months which have been dubbed by police a 'social issue.'

CM: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed Provincial Cabinet Committee on Law & Order from China to pay special attention to controlling incidents of kidnapping of children. 

He said the elements involved in the incidents of kidnapping should be traced out and given deterrent punishment. He said special teams should be set up for apprehending the criminals involved and a progress report should be submitted regularly. The CM said he realises agony of the parents of the kidnapped children and no effort will be spared for their recovery. He said an effective strategy should be evolved for controlling such incidents. He directed that special attention should be paid to the security at bus stands, railway stations and other places and the cases of kidnapping should be analysed from every angle.

Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a committee to inquire into the murder of a British-Pakistani woman, Samia Shahid, in Jhelum.

DIG Abu Bakar Khuda Bukhsh will be the head of the inquiry committee which will submit its report to the chief minister within 72 hours. The other members of the committee include SSP Investigation Abdul Rab, Jhelum SP Investigation and Gujranwala SP .

recovered: Two sisters kidnapped from Raiwind City police jurisdiction were recovered and brought back home by police from Rahimyar Khan on Thursday.

The girls identified as Sana, 13, and Mahwish, 11, had gone missing under puzzling circumstances on Eid day. It was later discovered by the police that they had been kidnapped by two labourers, who had been constructing a house in front of the girls’ house. Police found the girls in a raid in Rahimyar Khan and shifted them to a safe location. It is unknown whether the girls were kidnapped for ransom, or human trafficking. Further investigation is under way.   

accidents: Total 520 road traffic accidents were reported to the Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service, Rescue 1122, from all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Two people were killed and 461 critically injured in the accidents. The injured were shifted to hospitals. However, some 172 victims who sustained minor injuries were provision with first aid by the emergency medical teams.

Found dead: A 22-year-old youth was found dead in the Hunjarwal police area on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Danish. Police said he was an addict who might have died of an overdose of drugs. 

The body has been removed to morgue.

PHP: The Punjab Highway Patrol additional IG paid a surprise visit to Control Room and other PHP offices at the CPO.

He inspected the condition of offices and directed the officials concerned to make them neat and clean. He directed them to get the office furniture repaired. 

At PHP Control Room, he checked PHP posts in Hafizawal and Tari Khail, Mianwali, via V-SAT cameras.

bikes impounded: About 513 bikes have been impounded all over the city so far following a crackdown on wheelie and underage-driving.

Meanwhile, the chief traffic officer suspended three wardens and issued six show-cause notices to wardens who were careless in their use of government vehicles. He also gave cash prizes to four wardens for keeping their vehicles in impeccable condition.

Addressing SPs at Thokar Niaz Baig Police Lines, he ordered that official vehicles be kept with care.
