DHA, WWF start tree plantation campaign

A tree plantation campaign has been initiated jointly by the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Karachi and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to add to the greenery of the area, according to a statement issued by DHA officials on Monday. 

DHA Administrator Brig Zubair Ahmed planted a sapling of a fruit tree in a ceremony to kick the campaign titled ‘Go Green DHA’.

The ceremony was held at DHA Phase-VIII to formally mark the beginning of the environment friendly campaign, the statement read.

During the campaign, a mammoth number of 30,000 plants of different species will be planted all along the roads, avenues, khayabans, streets, medians and parks of DHA, the statement added.

It also said that a record number of 100,000 trees were being planted at the upcoming DHA City Karachi project.

“The versatile team of the DHA Horticulture Directorate will properly water, nurture and look after the planted saplings to ensure their proper growth and protection.”

The stake holders of the campaign also include the Cantonment Board Clifton, the Sindh Forest Department, the National Forum for Environment and Health, the Mera Karachi Group, the Critical Mass of Bikers, the Institute of Architects Pakistan Chapter, the Pakistan Green Building Council, the Vintage and Classic Car Club of Pakistan, the Pack-Group of Heavy Bikers, the Osmani & Company and the Defence Central Library.
