Planning needed to enhance cotton output

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday called for devising short- and long-term planning to enhance cotton production in the country.
Presiding over a high-level meeting to increase cotton production, he said: "We have to achieve targets of cotton production set for this year."
National and provincial officials and all stakeholders attended the meeting. The meeting discussed various proposals to enhance cotton production in the future.
Iqbal said this sector would not prosper without bringing about improvement in the cotton varieties.
Terming cotton crop as the backbone of the agriculture sector, he said, special attention is required for research in this vital sector.
