Glowing tribute paid to Amjad Sabri
PESHAWAR: Glowing tributes were paid to renowned qawwal late Amjad Sabri at a mystic qawwali arranged at a gathering here.
The programme was organised at the lone five-star hotel to pay homage to the great qawwal who was assassinated in Karachi on June 26.
A known qawwal Imran Mian, the son of legendary qawwal Aziz Mian, kept the audience spellbound at the jam-picked hall of the local five-star hotel by singing the famous qawwali of Amjad Sabri, Bhar De Jholi Meri, and received thundering applause.
Imran Mian, who himself is a known qawwal, kept the audience spellbound at the jam-picked hall of the local five star hotel by singing the famous qawwali of Amjad Sabri, Bhar De Jholi Meri, and received thundering applause.
He also sang popular qawwali numbers of Aziz Mian like Teri Soorat and Allah Hi Jane Kon Bashar Hai and famous lyrics rendered by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Kinna Sona Tenu Rab Ne Banaya and Wohi Khuda Hai.
The function was aimed at paying rich tributes to the legendary qawwali maestro for his services in promoting the soft image of Pakistan through sofi music.
Amjad Sabri belonged to the famous family of qawwals and was among the three families which promoted this genre of music not only in the subcontinent but also the entire world.
Like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Aziz Mian Qawwal, Amjad Sabri rendered mystic lyrics in different countries of the world, including United States and Europe. He won recognition and fame.
Youngsters from the audience also joined Imran Mian by singing reciting the lyrics. He also honoured a request from fans including men, women and children who insisted on continuing the function till late night. Families enjoyed the function and responded through clapping.
Earlier in his short speech, Imran Mian lauded the services of Amjad Sabri and said he had no words to pay homage to proponent of the Sufi Muslim tradition who took forward not only the art of his father Ghulam Farid Sabri but of legendary qawwals Aziz Mian and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
These were the three families which promoted and introduced qawwali first in the Indian subcontinent and then other parts of the world, he added.
Pointing towards the audience, he said such a large gathering of fans shows how people of Peshawar loved Amjad Sabri and the Sufi music.
