Computers to mark cases being heard by lower courts: LHC CJ

LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Masoor Ali Shah on Saturday inaugurated the Public Information Centre and Video Court on the premises of the Sessions Court.

The chief justice was welcomed by the District and Sessions Judge, Nazeer Ahmad Ganjana, along with other additional and civil judges.

The chief justice also inaugurated the E-Record Room and Conference Room. The LHC registrar briefed the CJ on the new establishments at the sessions court. 

The chief justice said that computers will be installed in all the subordinate courts of the High Court and computers will mark all the cases that are heard by these courts. He said it has become necessary that we adopt information technology. He said we have to adopt modern technology in the justice system to fulfill the requirements for the future generations.

The chief justice said that the judicial system is for professional people and there is no room for non-professional judges and lawyers. He said the time has come to we deal with non-serious people in a serious manner. He said the Punjab Bar Council and the Pakistan Bar Council must also adopt an effective system to check the degrees of fresh lawyers and the courts and its staff will offer full cooperation in this regard. 

He said it has become necessary as over 13 lakh cases are pending in these courts and to clear the backlog we have to adopt the most modern technology, and computers are the solution to this issue.

Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah said that the sessions court, Lahore, has written history by introducing the Public Information Centre and Video Court. He said the real judiciary is the district judiciary and this new system will benefit the common man who comes to these courts. He said this automation will bring a revolution in the district judicial system and all the cases which have been lying pending for years will now be decided in a very short span of time.

A demonstration was given to the chief justice of video link  from district jail, Lahore, jail trials, e-courts from civil court and demonstration was given of parents’ communication with their children from the family court. 

On the occasion, the chief justice awarded Rs50,000 and Rs35,000 to the computer operators and data entry operators. A large number of lawyers and judges attended the ceremony.
