Tevta to recruit 65,000 apprentices

Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh has said that Tevta will achieve the target to recruit 65,000 apprentices up to December, 2016.

Tevta achieved the target to recruit 28,000 apprentices up to December, 2015. The number of enrolment of apprentices is constantly growing. The strength of apprentices has now reached 41,574. All the regional directorates of apprenticeship training are trying their level best to get the required target.

According to the vision of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Tevta is endeavouring to promote apprenticeship training scheme across the province of the Punjab.

Tevta chairperson was addressing a meeting to review the progress of apprenticeship training scheme here at Tevta secretariat, according to a press release issued here on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by Tevta officers Akhtar Abbas Bharwana, Azhar Iqbal Shad, Amir Aziz, Umer Farooq, Maqsood Ahmed, Waheed Asghar, Sarfraz Anwar and others.

Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said apprenticeship scheme had been made more flexible to give maximum benefit to our youth. The summary for age relaxation to the apprentices up to the age of 28 years has already been approved by the chief minister.

It will help to combat the menace of unemployment. It is pertinent to mention that the strength of apprentices up to June, 2015 was 14,018. By the end of December 2016, more than 20,000 trainees will be enrolled as apprentices in different industries of Punjab.

He said that efforts were being carried out to bring the maximum number of industries under the purview of Apprenticeship Ordinance, 1962. So far 1985 industries have been notified for implementation of apprenticeship scheme, whereas 100 new industries are under process of notification. Tevta is also organising seminars, skill competitions, employers’ days and school student’s awareness programmes for dissemination of the Apprenticeship Training Scheme, he concluded.
