The Awami Jamhoori Party (AJP) began a 12-day education campaign across Sindh on Wednesday, after what its leadership called “the failure” of the PPP government to impose an education emergency in the province.
Leading the campaign, AJP President Abrar Qazi said thousands of schools remained non-functional in Sindh, and over 60 million children were still out of school.
He said their voices were not heard, and one did not see steps on a war footing for an educational revolution in the province.
Another senior leader of the party, Zahida Dahri, said: “We are deeply concerned over the state of education in the province. Without giving access to education, building sound infrastructure, imparting quality education, the people in rural areas have no future. Sadly, our education system is not producing quality human resource. There are no jobs for people who are without skills.”
Banners displayed on this occasion asked the Sindh government: “How many out-of-school children were brought to school?” and “Why has enrollment not increased in Sindh?”
Over the next 12 days, AJP leaders will be running a door-to-door campaign, urging people to raise their voice against falling standards of education and to pressurise the government to act immediately.
Besides, AJP workers will be distributing pamphlets and handbills calling for an education emergency in Sindh.
The AJP has been campaigning for an education emergency for years. The education campaign will continue till July 31.
