Rotten vegetables sold at double rates

Prices of essential vegetables remained skyrocketed in the weekly makeshift markets of the city while only few were available there as it seems the Eid holidays of the district government have not yet over to ensure supply and prices of perishables. 

Only few substandard, rainwater damaged, rotten vegetables were sold this week again in makeshift markets. Majority of seasonal vegetables prices were doubled this week. Even with double price these were not sold there while in open markets prices were higher than the official rates in the absence of any checks and balances from the authorities. The price list issued by the market committee Lahore duly signed by the district government official was openly violated while in makeshift markets vendors also not charged the rates even displaying it on price cards issued by the market committee officials. The vendors claimed that the rates of all vegetables were higher at wholesale level in Badami Bagh vegetable and fruit markets; so they brought only few items to the makeshift markets. They said that the lower price was being issued by the market committee in the price lists, thus it was not feasible to do business this Sunday. 

The price of potato soft skin was stable at Rs31 to 34 per kg, sugar-free at Rs23 to 25 per kg, and stored at Rs17 to 19 per kg, while stored sold at Rs34 per kg. Onion price was increased by Re one per kg, fixed at Rs21 to 24 per kg. The price of tomato gained by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs61 to 65 per kg, rotten was sold in makeshift market at Rs80 per kg, while in open markets sold at Rs160 per kg. 

Garlic local was increased by Rs52 per kg, fixed at Rs160 to 170 per kg, garlic Quetta by Rs40 per kg, fixed at Rs188 to 200 per kg, while both local and Quetta was sold at Rs240 per kg. Ginger Chinese was gained by Rs3 per kg, fixed at Rs65 to 70 per kg, sold at Rs80 per kg. The price of brinjal was enhanced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs37 to 40 per kg. Cucumber local was gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs42 to 45 per kg sold at Rs50 per kg. Bitter gourd also raised by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs31 to 35 per kg, lower quality was sold at Rs40 per kg. Spinach price was gained by Rs12 per kg, fixed at Rs26 to 30 per kg, rainwater damaged was sold at Rs40 per kg. 

Lemon local A-grade was fixed at Rs65 to 70 per kg, and B-grade fixed at Rs40 to 50 per kg, while mixed sold at Rs70 to 80 per kg. Zucchini local was gained by Rs140 per kg, fixed at Rs65 to 70 per kg, sold at Rs80 per kg. The price of pumpkin was gained by Rs39 per kg, fixed at Rs56 to 65 per kg, not sold there, outside sold at Rs80 per kg. Luffa price was increased by Rs19 per kg, fixed at Rs36 to 39 per kg, sold at Rs40 per kg.

Ladyfinger price was doubled with a gain of Rs44 per kg, fixed at Rs74 to 80 per kg, not available in makeshift markets. Arum was declined by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs51 to 55 per kg, mixed was sold at Rs60 per kg. Green chilli price local was fixed at Rs46 to 50 per kg with an increased of Rs14 per kg, farm price was fixed at Rs26 to 30 per kg, both were sold at Rs50 per kg. Capsicum was fixed at Rs56 to 60 per kg, sold at Rs80 per kg.

Coriander was gained by Rs60 per kg, fixed at Rs150 per kg, sold at Rs400 per kg.

The price of different variety of apples was fixed at Rs56 to 242 per kg, sold at Rs140 to 300 per kg. The price of banana A category was fixed at Rs74 to 80 per dozen, B category at Rs56 to 60 per dozen, sold at Rs80 per dozen, A-category was fixed at Rs12 per dozen. Peach A-category was fixed at Rs120 to 130 per kg, B-category at Rs74 to 80 per kg. The price of different variety of mangoes was fixed at Rs33 to 105 per kg while sold at Rs80 to 120 per kg. Apricot white was fixed Rs106 to 140 per kg, mixed sold at Rs140 to 160 per kg. Plump price was fixed at Rs110 to 116 per kg, sold at Rs200 per kg. Grapes sundarkhani was fixed at Rs173 to 185 per kg, sold at Rs200 per kg, grapes black was at Rs130 to 140 per kg, not sold. Jambolan was fixed at Rs95 per kg, sold at Rs120 per kg.
