Hospitals principals to get more powers

LAHORE

Principals and medical superintendents of teaching hospitals/autonomous medical institutions would be empowered by delegating administrative and financial powers for improving the working of hospitals and resolve day-to-day issues of their institutions so that better healthcare facilities could be provided to patients.

In this connection, a meeting headed by Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Healthcare Punjab, Najam Ahmad Shah, was held at Civil Secretariat, according to a handout issued on Saturday. Parliamentary Secretary on Health Kh. Imran Nazir, Vice Chancellor KEMU Prof. Faisal Masood, MS Mayo Hospital Dr. Amjad Shehzad, Principal Services Institute of Medical Sciences Prof. Hamid Mehmud Butt, MS Dr. Salahuddin, Principal PGMI/ Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Prof. Khalid Mehmood, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Prof. Mehmood Shaukat, MS Jinnah Hospital Dr. Shafqat Al9i, MS Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Dr. Nauman Matloob, Medical Director Children Hospital Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, Additional Secretary Health (Admn) Asad Naeem, Dr. Haq Nawaz Barwana, Prof. Syed Muhammad Awais and other officers attended the meeting.

Deliberations were made for giving administrative and financial powers to principals and medical superintendents of tertiary care hospitals and autonomous specialised health institutions.

The meeting discussed the empowerment of principals and medical superintendents and bifurcation of their financial as well as administrative powers including tendering of construction work, pre-qualification of firms, local purchase in case of urgency, purchase of construction material, recruitment of work charge/daily wages labour, powers of repair and maintenance and the limit of utilisation of funds.

The meeting also discussed the administrative powers of principals and medical superintendents regarding the employees of their institutions.
