Karachi
After remaining admitted to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) for a day, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan on Saturday was discharged from the leading public-sector hospital of the city in cardiology.
The Sindh governor was rushed to the NICVD on Friday when his health condition suddenly deteriorated during Friday prayers at the official mosque of the Governor House.
During his time at the NICVD, the doctors conducted ECG, blood test and angiography on the governor.
However, the treatment and tests conducted on the governor showed that he was not suffering from any heart-related issue.
After improvement of his health condition and his tests showing no abnormality in his coronary and heart systems, Dr Ebad was discharged from the hospital on Saturday morning and taken back to the governor house.
On Friday, doctors at the hospital told The News that the governor was brought to the facility with severe chest pain, sweating and anxiety, and an ECG test showed he was fine.
“Doctors decided to perform angiography on the Sindh governor and the procedure was performed by our senior consultant and the incharge of Cath Lab, Dr Tahir Sagheer, in my presence. Fortunately, the governor had no major issues with his cardiovascular system,” said NICVD Executive Director Dr Nadeem Qamar.
He said that although the governor had no heart trouble and his cardiovascular functions were performing quite normally, senior doctors decided to conduct some blood tests and for that he was admitted to the hospital temporarily.
“On the basis of blood tests, whose results are expected in five to six hours, a team of medical experts would decide further course of action; otherwise, the Sindh governor would be discharged from the hospital s there is nothing wrong with his heart,” he added.
Dr Qamar opined that Ebad’s health deteriorated due to dehydration and stomach-related problems, but overall he was quite healthy.
Other experts at the NICVD said the governor was a “heavy smoker” and had gastrointestinal problems, which could be the reason behind the sudden deterioration in his health.
They added that he had been advised
to immediately quit smoking as his
hemoglobin level was also very high due to smoking.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah visited the governor at the NICVD and inquired after his health.
He directed the NICVD administration to take special care of governor and provide him the best treatment.
Later, talking to journalists, Chief Minister Shah said he had been working with Khan for the last seven years and he knew him very well.
“Dr Ishratul Ebad is a very nice person and I pray for his early recovery and wellbeing,” he said, adding that doctors had told him that the health of the governor was better and improving.
Director General Sindh Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar, Chief Secretary Muhammad Siddque Memon, Health Secretary Ahmed Bakhsh Narejo and various other political personalities also visited the governor at the NICVD and inquired after his health.
