Security measures bolstered ahead of Muharram

Islamabad : The Islamabad Police are intensifying their efforts to combat crime and ensure robust security arrangements for the upcoming holy month of Muharram. A high-level meeting, chaired by DIG Islamabad Muhammad Jawad Tariq, was held to strategize on crime prevention and security protocols. The meeting saw the participation of key police officials, including the SSP Investigation, SSP Operations Islamabad, SP Security Operations, Zonal SPs, SDPOs, and SHOs.

DIG Tariq issued stringent directives during the meeting, emphasizing the arrest of proclaimed offenders and repeat criminals involved in serious crimes. He stressed the importance of a visible police presence, stating, "Patrolling must be made more effective and purposeful, and every officer should be visible in the field."

Further directives included a crackdown on active criminal gangs and the arrest of individuals involved in illegal arms possession, display of weapons, and drug trafficking. DIG Tariq reiterated that all available resources must be utilized to curb crime and highlighted that the protection of lives and property of citizens is the top priority of Islamabad Police.

With Muharram approaching, DIG Tariq urged all officers to meet with organizers of Imambargahs and strengthen coordination to ensure fool-proof security and maintain peace. He directed officers to take solid measures to provide full protection to gatherings and processions of mourners. Additionally, a firm crackdown on aerial firing, hooliganism, and one-wheeling was ordered.

In line with directives from the IG Islamabad to root out crime across the district, the Islamabad Police have commenced grand search and combing operations. In one such operation, police personnel, including lady police officers, conducted an extensive search in various areas of Shams Colony Police Station, Industrial Area Zone, under the supervision of the SP Industrial Area Zone.

During this operation, 150 individuals, 100 houses, inns, hotels, and motels were checked. Additionally, seven motorcycles were inspected, leading to 17 suspects and three motorcycles being shifted to the police station for further investigation. The police spokesperson stated that the purpose of these grand search operations is to curb crime in the area.

Citizens are urged to cooperate with the police during these checks and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities, as ensuring public safety remains the department's top priority.
