Rawalpindi: The Special Court of Anti-Terrorism in Rawalpindi has sentenced five individuals to a total of 65 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs100,000 each in a case involving the recovery of explosives. The court also ordered the confiscation of all properties owned by the convicts in favour of the government.
The case was registered by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Police Station Rawalpindi on September 12, 2023, against Abdul Rashid, Rizwanullah, Luqman Khan, Waheed Khan, and Irfanullah under Sections 5 and 5A of the Explosives Act, 1908, and Sections 7, 11F, and 11W of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, after a large quantity of explosives was recovered from their possession. Following the completion of the trial, the court sentenced all five accused to seven years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 5 of the Explosives Act and three years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 11F of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Each convict was also fined Rs50,000 under Section 11F and another Rs. 50,000 under Section 11W. In case of non-payment of the fines, the accused will face an additional six months of imprisonment under each section. The court also ordered the confiscation of all five convicts’ properties under Section 5 of the Explosives Act. However, the court granted the benefit of Section 382-B of the Criminal Procedure Code, under which the time spent in custody will be counted toward their sentence.
