The FY2025-26 budget depicts a booming economy and has set correspondingly optimistic growth and revenue targets. Meanwhile, some international development agencies claim that almost 45 per cent of our population is living in poverty. If the picture the government has painted of our economy in the budget is true, it would appear that our leaders have found a way to make growth directly proportional to poverty rather than it being the other way around. This must have involved some fantastical mathematics which ought to be shared with the scientific community. Who knows what new inventions it could lead to.
