Unaffordable
Eidul Azha has begun and many families are still going to the cattle markets to purchase the animals that they will sacrifice. I would like to draw attention to the increasingly high prices of livestock in the markets, which have placed immense economic pressure on families trying to fulfill their religious duties. In some cases, the cost of even a small animal is beyond reach, forcing people to either share in larger groups or forgo the practice altogether.
Without oversight, prices continue to rise each year, creating added pressure on consumers during what should be a time of religious observance and community support. The relevant authorities should review market practices and consider measures that ensure more stable pricing. Transparency, regulation and support for small livestock sellers could help balance the market and reduce economic pressure on consumers.
