Discos get nod for Rs0.93 per unit recovery

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Thursday approved an additional charge of Rs0.9306 per unit for electricity consumers in June bills, ending a nine-month streak of monthly refunds under the fuel cost adjustment (FCA) mechanism for April 2025.

This marks the first time since July 2024 that state-run distribution companies (Discos) have been permitted to recover costs, after consistent FCA refunds ranging from Rs0.288 to Rs2.124 per unit between July 2024 and March 2025. NEPRA allowed recovery of Rs0.9306 per unit against the Central Power Purchasing Agency’s (CPPA) demand of Rs1.268/unit.

The charge applies to all ex-Wapda Disco consumers except lifeline users, electric vehicle charging stations, and prepaid consumers. The adjustment, based on April consumption, will appear as a separate item in June bills or subsequent invoices if bills were already issued.
