LAHORE : To ensure the necessary arrangements before the arrival of Eid-ul Azha, the Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 on specific activities across the province.
According to a spokesman for Punjab Home Department, Section 144 will be enforced on five types of activities. According to the details, sale and purchase of sacrificial animals has been banned across Punjab except in notified cattle markets. Section 144 has also been enforced across Punjab on burning heads and trotters of sacrificial animals in public places and bathing & boating in rivers, streams, canals and dams. Similarly, Section 144 has also been imposed for throwing animal waste in manholes, drains or canals. The display of firearms and ammunition has also been strictly prohibited across Punjab. According to the orders issued by the Home Department Punjab, Section 144 has been enforced across the province from Thursday June 5 until Wednesday June 11. The spokesperson said that Section 144 was imposed to establish law & order and to protect the environment and human lives.
The order states that there are sufficient grounds to proceed under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, to prevent disturbance of public peace and danger to human life within the territorial limits of Province of Punjab. Hence, the Secretary Home has issued orders under Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1898. The spokesperson stated that the mentioned activities not only pose a threat to public safety and health but also cause anxiety among the people. The spokesperson further emphasised that no banned organisation will be allowed to collect animal hides during Eid-ul Azha. Only organisations registered with the Punjab Charity Commission will be permitted to collect animal hides. The spokesperson said that the administration and law enforcement agencies across the province have been directed to ensure the implementation of the orders in letter and spirit.
