BANNU: The residents of the Landidak area in the jurisdiction of Huweid Police Station resisted the entry of armed militants into their locality, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire in which a cop embraced martyrdom.

During the clash, a cop, Murtaza, who was deployed at the Bakakhel TDPs camp, embraced martyrdom. Three other persons, including Police Constable Mir Zaman, schoolteacher Naqeebullah and a local resident Hafeezullah, sustained injuries and were swiftly transported to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment.

According to sources, the local elders had previously warned criminal and militant groups through tribal jirgas to stay away from the area. Despite these warnings, the armed group attempted to enter the village, prompting immediate resistance from the residents.

The militants were eventually forced to retreat due to the strong opposition from the local population. The local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and were working to identify the perpetrators.
