Kundi wants hockey team to bring Nations Cup gold home
ISLAMABAD: As the national team’s probables were involved in an exhibition hockey match to pay tribute to the Armed Forces on their historic achievement against India, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi hoped to see Pakistan winning gold in the Nations Cup and make it to the Pro League next season.
“We are proud of our forces for dismantling India. Their achievement is a historic one. The whole nation celebrated the victory throughout the country. Forces are our pride.” Pakistan Greens beat Whites 3-2 in an exhibition match meant to celebrate the achievement.
Later, talking to the media, Faisal said he was excited to see the teams’ performance during the match. “I hope they will go on to win gold by playing outstanding hockey in the Nations Cup.”
He urged the KP government to work for the uplift of hockey in the province. “Once considered the hub of hockey activities in the country, the game has seen no patronage from the KP government in recent times. KP Government must come out of the corruption net and fund hockey and other sports in the province.”
The KP Governor hailed KP sportsmen for the talent they possess. “More than half of the national cricket team members are from KP. Even hockey players are there in the national team but there is a need to support hockey and other games so that the talent can reach international level. There is too much talent for sports in the province.”
