Performance of small cities’ admin better than big ones, BOR report

LAHORE:The performance of district administration of small cities across Punjab has outnumbered the administration of big cities, raising serious questions about the working of ‘most talented’ officers posted in big cities.

As per the Key Performance Indicators for the month of April 2025 shown on the dashboard of Punjab Board of Revenue (BOR), district Bahawalnagar secured the first position, Layyah stood second and Pakpattan became third while Lahore was on 11th number in the list.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari while talking to The News said this report was complied every month to access the performance of the district administration of all districts of the province. She said the Chief Minister Punjab, through the dashboard, also gave special tasks to all the officers and those completing them got rewarded while those failed faced transfers.

As per the dashboard report, in terms of performance, the top ten districts included Bahawalnagar (first), Layyah (second), Pakpattan (third), Rajanpur (fourth), Vehari (fifth), Chiniot (sixth), Lodhran (seventh), Okara (eighth), Khanewal (ninth) and Rahim Yar Khan (tenth).

According to the figures, Lahore was ranked eleventh, Mandi Bahauddin was ranked twelfth, Faisalabad was ranked thirteenth, Bhakkar was ranked fourteenth, Toba Tek Singh was ranked fifteenth, Multan was ranked sixteenth, Muzaffargarh was ranked seventeenth and Gujranwala was ranked eighteenth.

The dashboard further showed that Mianwali was ranked nineteenth, Gujarat was ranked twentieth, Sargodha was ranked twenty-first and Bahawalpur was ranked twenty-second. District Sahiwal was ranked twenty-third, Khushab was ranked twenty-fourth, Murree 25th and Rawalpindi 26th. Nankana Sahib 27th, Sheikhupura 28th, Attock 29th, Sialkot 30th, Jhang 31st, Jhelum 32nd, Narowal 33rd, Dera Ghazi Khan 34th, Talagang 35th, Wazirabad 36th, Kot Addu 37th, Chakwal 38th, Hafizabad 39th and Kasur district was at the last position.

Azma Bukhari said the CM put special attention on small and less developed districts of the province and this was why the performance of those districts improved a lot. She added that a special salary was also given to the performing officer so there was a competition between them.

She further said that recent transfer and posting of several officers in Punjab was also a result of the performance evaluation. She warned that any officer who was not performing should be ready for transfer.
