A sessions court on Monday granted post-arrest bail to an alleged Lyari gangster in a 2022 case pertaining to possession of illicit arms.

The additional sessions judge-IV (South) approved the bail application of Muhammad Salam, alias Mulla Nisar, alias Nisar Ahmed, subject to submission of a surety of Rs100,000. The accused could not be released immediately as he is yet to get bail in over half a dozen other cases pend-ing before anti-terrorism courts. According to theprosecution, a 30-bore pistol along with five live bullets was recovered from the possession of the accused during his search within the limits of the Kalri police station.

He failed to produce the licence of the recovered weapon, therefore, an FIR was lodged against him under the Section 23(i)A of the Sindh Arms Act, 2013, the prosecution said.

The state prosecutor opposed the bail application, requesting the court to dismiss it. Meanwhile, defence lawyers Mushtaque Ahmed Shaikh and Osama Ali Gujjar contended that the accused was innocent as the alleged recovered weapon had been foisted upon him with mala fide intentions. There was no evidence available on record to link the accused with the commissioning of the alleged offence, they said and pleaded with the court to grant him bail.
