Pakistan Customs enforcement personnel, acting on a tip-off, raided warehouses involved in the illegal sale of Iranian diesel and seized a significant quantity worth millions of rupees on Saturday.
Syed Irfan Ali, a spokesman for the customs, stated that in line with Pakistan’s government’s zero-tolerance policy against smuggling, the enforcement collectorate Karachi was actively combating smuggling operations. On confidential information provided by Collector Customs Enforcement Moinuddin Ahmed Wani from a sensitive agency, the Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) of the Enforcement Collectorate, led by Deputy Collector Customs Enforcement Syed Raza Naqvi, conducted a operation.
They seized 96,697 litres of Iranian diesel smuggled from underground tankers at various petrol stations in the Northern Bypass area. Additionally, seven Mazda tankers, used to distribute the smuggled diesel to different parts of the city, were also confiscated.
The total value of the seized Iranian diesel was estimated at Rs25 million, while the seven Mazda tankers were valued at Rs30 million. The total value of the seized goods was approximately Rs55 million. The diesel had been transferred to the ASO warehouse via oil tankers. A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act, and further investigations are ongoing.
