Protective bail of CM’s aide, PTI leader extended

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday extended the protective bail of Adviser to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Isaf leader Faisal Javed and barred authorities from arresting them.

The PHC two separate benches also issued notices to the federal government and relevant institutions to provide details of the cases filed against both the leaders.Barrister Saif’s case was heard by a two-member bench comprising Acting Chief Justice SM Attique Shah and Justice Muhammad Ijaz Khan where the former and his lawyer Alam Khan Adeenzai appeared before the court.

The petitioner’s counsel informed the bench that several cases had been filed against his client following the protest at D-Chowk in Islamabad in November 2024.He prayed the court to direct authorities to provide details of all cases so his client could appear before the relevant courts.

The federal government’s lawyer told the court that a report had been submitted in which it was reported that four cases were registered in Islamabad.The additional advocate general also confirmed that a report had been submitted on behalf of the provincial government. The court granted Barrister Saif protective bail until June 3 and directed him to appear in the relevant courts by that date. The petition of PTI leader Faisal Javed was heard by another two-member bench comprising Justice Sahibzada Asadullah and Justice Fazal Subhan.

His counsel Alam Khan Adeenzai informed the bench that a writ petition had been filed to obtain details of the cases registered against Faisal Javed.The assistant attorney general informed the court that the federal government had submitted its report, saying that 22 cases were registered against Faisal Javed. Additional Advocate General Inam Yousafzai informed the court that the provincial government would also submit its report.

Justice Sahibzada Asadullah remarked that the court wanted to conclude the matter the same day.Inam Yousafzai pleaded that the report from the Inspector General of Police had been submitted and only the anti-corruption report was pending. The court extended Faisal Javed’s protective bail until May 29 and sought a response from the provincial government.
