Transporter shot dead
A transporter, also the father of four children, was shot dead outside a mosque in Gulshan-e-Iqbal shortly after the Friday prayers. Unidentified assailants opened fire on him apparently in a targeted attack. Two women begging outside the mosque were also injured in the incident.
According to police, the incident occurred outside the Jamia Masjid Ghazali in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 13-D. Three unidentified armed men were reportedly lying in wait and opened fire as the victim exited the mosque after offering the prayers. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the shooting. The victim, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to a private hospital on Stadium Road, where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment.
The injured women were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The deceased was identified as 46-year-old Akram Ahmed, son of Fazal Ahmed. He lived in the same area. Police said the victim worked as a transporter and had four children. His family hails from Narowal. According to a District East police spokesperson, the victim was walking back to his residence nearby when he came under attack. As he attempted to flee, the attackers chased and shot him again.
