Hamid clinches 6th Chairman WAPDA Amateur Golf title
LAHORE: Hussain Hamid of Royal Palm Golf Club emerged victorious at the prestigious 6th Chairman WAPDA Amateur Golf Tournament, concluding Sunday at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Club.
Hamid secured the championship with an impressive 220 gross score, outperforming Abdullah Khan of Defence Raya Golf Club who finished second with 225 gross, and Danish Javed of Gymkhana Club who claimed third place with 227 gross.
The four-day tournament, organised under the aegis of WAPDA Sports Board, featured competitions across multiple categories including amateurs, senior amateurs, ladies, veterans, and invitational divisions.
Federal Minister for Water Resources, Mian Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, graced the concluding ceremony as the chief guest. The event was also attended by prominent figures including Chairman WAPDA and Patron-in-Chief WAPDA Sports Board, Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd) WAPDA Member (Finance), Naveed Asghar Chaudhry Member (Water), Syed Ali Akhtar Shah, Various General Managers, Veteran golfers and WAPDA Sports Board officials.
In his address, the Federal Minister congratulated the tournament winners and commended WAPDA’s consistent efforts in promoting sports throughout Pakistan. He particularly praised the organisation’s dual commitment to encouraging athletic excellence while simultaneously contributing to national development through water and hydro-power resource management.
Chairman WAPDA, Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd), reaffirmed the organisation’s dedication to nurturing talent and creating platforms for youth engagement through sporting events. In his welcome remarks, he congratulated the WAPDA Sports Board for successfully organizing the tournament.
The Amateurs Winner in was Gross Hussain Hamid (220) while Winner in Net was Muhammad Jamshaid (205) and in Senior Amateurs category Winner in Gross was Ahmed Zafar Hayat (145) while Winner Net was Mian M Shabbir Nagiana (136).
The Veterans Winner Gross was Javed A Khan (36) and Winner Net was Asad Hameed (32) while in Invitational Winner Gross was Lt Col Agha Nadir (40) and Winner Net was Brig Tahir Butt (32).
