KARACHI: The federal government of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) is reported to have been directed long serving Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan to resign from the coveted constitutional position of the province.
According to the news report aired by Geo News TV and other private television news channels on Thursday, federal government had come to the conclusion that Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan was no more suitable for representation of federation in Sindh.
The news reports of television channels said that the federal govt had decided to direct Dr Ebad to tender his resignation as Sindh Governor following accusations against him contained in the video-recorded statement of the then death row inmate Saulat Mirza who had later been given capital punishment in the month of May in case of killing of managing-director of the then Karachi Electric Supply Corporation.
The reports said that federal government had started consultations at the higher echelons of power for selecting the person as the next incumbent of the position of Governor of Sindh. In this regard, the federal government is reported to have been taken into confidence the Sindh government of Pakistan Peoples Party.
The reports said that Sindh governor reportedly had taken time out from federal govt for about one month before stepping down owing to his personal engagements during this period of time as foremost among these engagements was marriage of his daughter, which would be solemnised at Sindh Governor House on Friday. The sources close to Sindh governor house, however, denied that Sindh governor is stepping down any soon.
