ATC grants four-day remand of main suspect in Mustafa Amir murder case

An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday remanded the main suspect in the Mustafa Amir murder case in police custody for four days for questioning.

Jail authorities produced Armughan before the ATC-II judge following a Sindh High Court (SHC) order.

Anti-Violent Crime Cell Inspector Muhammad Ali, who is investigating four cases against Armughan, including the murder of Mustafa Amir, an attack on a police party that raided his residence to arrest him, and possession of illicit arms, sought the suspect's physical remand for interrogation.

The IO stated that the suspect's custody is required for interrogation and recovery of the murder weapon. To a query, he informed the judge that the victim's body had been traced and that a judicial magistrate had also allowed an application for exhumation of the body for a postmortem examination.

Acting Prosecutor General Sindh Muntazir Mehdi also turned up in the court and read out the high court's order. On a query, the suspect said that he had been in the central prison since February 10 and also complained of maltreatment at the hands of the police.

"I have perused the police papers, heard the accused and his counsel, IO and learned Incharge Prosecutor General and also gone through the short order of the Honourable High Court of Sindh," the judge observed and granted four-day police remand of the suspect until Feb 21 for "recovery of crime weapons, pointation of the places of incidents and the trail of weapons". He directed the jail authorities to hand over the custody of the suspect to IO Mohammad Ali.
